The Polish WWII Resistance Memorial, in Krakow Poland
In 2013 an international project team led by Alexander Smaga won an international competition and was chosen to build a Polish WWII Resistance memorial as part of a riverside intervention at the UNESCO protected site of the Royal Castle in Krakow. The project involved many stakeholders
including WWII veterans, institutions, funders, councillors and local politicians. The design
features an undulating ribbon made of steel which tells the story of the resistance from its
formation to its final moments. The design obtained a building permit. A special mockup
model was built by us in scale 1:1 to highlight its interaction with the context.
